On Monday, February 5, 2024, and Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the respective subcommittees of the Florida Senate and the Florida House of Representatives on Regulated Industries will hear Senate Bill 704 and House Bill 785 to:

DEREGULATE BARBERING AND ALLOW “LIMITED BARBERING” LICENSES WITH NO REQUIRED SCHOOLING, BUT FOR THE HIV CE COURSE, TO BE ISSUED BY THE BARBERING BOARD TO INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE PROVIDING BARBER SERVICES (HAIR CUTTING, SHAMPOO AND STYLE, BEARD AND MUSTACHE TRIMS) IN A LICENSED BARBER SHOP AND UNDER SUPERVISION OF A LICENSED BARBER.

This is “breaking news”; the House subcommittee meeting as to “Limited Barbering” was just scheduled on Friday.

If this Bill passes the House and then the Senate, what impact will that have on your barbering programs? What barbering student will elect to pay for a 600-hour course or a 900-hour course when he/she/they can apprentice in a licensed barber shop under the supervision of a licensed barber and only pay for the HIV CE course? Simple answer, NONE.

FACTS is making plans TODAY to send representatives to Tallahassee to attend the House Subcommittee on Tuesday at 8 AM.

AND FACTS NEEDS MORE VOICES, MORE SCHOOL OWNERS

TO STEP UP AND ATTEND THAT MEETING

Your barbering programs are “on the line” here. Without a contingency of barbers, barber educators and barber school owners objecting to this Bill, it will likely “sail through” the House and Senate and your barbering courses will be extinguished.

Please support FACTS to object to this Bill. Come to Tallahassee. Bring your licensed barber graduates, barber students and barber educators to object to this bill and to voice the importance of 600-hour and 900-hour barbering courses.

The FACTS coalition will meet in the rotunda of the Capital Building on Tuesday at 7:30 AM. FACTS will help you submit your Appearance Form so you will be scheduled on the agenda to speak.

YOUR VOICE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. MAKE THE EFFORT AND JOIN FACTS IN TALLAHASSEE ON TUESDAY
